Course objectives
The course will introduce the students to the key issues of research into medieval Latin language and will offer information about the most important and relevant scholarly studies (old and modern).
Learning outcomes
Students will acquire an overview of the key methods applicable in the field of medieval Latin language and literature (synchronic and diachronic research).
Syllabus
  • Bloc teaching:
  • Latin language in the Middle Ages;
  • synchronic and diachronic research;
  • geographic and chronologic diversity;
  • differences of Medieval Latin from Classical Latin;
  • modern research into Medieval Latin language.
Literature
  • Literature is assigned based on the topics of the dissertation.
  • Literatura: dle zvolených témat doktorských disertací.
Teaching methods
Lecture; seminar work; independent review of scholarly literature; seminar discussion.
Assessment methods
Regular and active class participation.
