Course objectives
There are two main aims in the seminar: firstly, to provide students with tools for observation, description and analysis of the qualities and structuring of the work of literature, resulting from students´ adoption of crucial notions of modern poetics, as well as of the potential of their application. This experience forms a precondition for further interpretation of a work of literature and typologizing or comparing a set of work both in synchronic, and historical perspective, as well as for further study and analysis of methods of literary criticism. The second aim consists in creating a foundation for the intermedia approach: the literary poetics will be elaborated as a media aware one so as to provide insight into the principles of literature as media and to make it eaiser to grasp the qualities of other media products (film, visual art, virtual reality) in further study.
Students will be able to:
- grasp the individual qualities of a work of literature in general categories shared with other works
- employ this characteristics in partial analyses and complex interpretations of literature
- employing this characteristics in formulating a hypothesis on the relation of the work in question to other works
- acquire the command of media specific poetics of other media
