Cíle předmětu
The course examines a variety of topics at the intersection of literature and culture. It largely draws on research originating in cultural psychology and/or sociology in order to gain new insights into literary and cultural texts. The lectures are open to students from different fields of study, and may be of particular interest to students pursuing literary studies as well as those enrolled in social sciences who also make use of literary and cultural texts in their theoretical work. The course topics may partially be selected in order to reflect the research interests of the course participants. Upon the completion of the course, students will have gained basic overview of the theories and methods of studying culture and will have familiarized themselves with a variety of topics ranging from the politics of clothing to the art of storytelling in the Arab world.

Lectures and class discussions.
Metody hodnocení
Final assignment: an essay of 10,000 – 14,000 characters to be submitted in English, Slovak or Czech language. Students are encouraged to present their original insights and ideas observing the conventions of the academic essay.
