Course objectives
In this course students are introduced in a number of essentials about Flanders (Belgium), covering various fields: geography, politics, media, culture, etc. Every class focusses on a certain topic, the starting point mostly being a recent event in Belgian/Flemish society that is studied in depth and put into historical perspective. Main objective of this course is that students not only acquire basic knowledge about Flanders and Belgium, but also that they are able to formulate their point of view in current discussions. As the emphasis is on current events, students are encouraged to consult Flemish newspapers and other media.
