Course objectives
This course is optional for the bachelor and master study of the Dutch Language and Literature. The course is actually more convenient for the second and third year students. The course has two objectives. The first concerns the theory and the second the practice. In the theoretical part the students learn the Dutch phonetic and phonological terminology. The aim of the course is to understand the articulatory phonetics especially the Dutch sound system in contrast to the Czech sound system. Further the sandhi-phenomena will be focused on and the students should also learn to understand the basic facts about the suprasegmental phenomena in the Dutch language. The aim of the practical part of this course is to learn to use IPA in transcripitons and to learn to understand spoken Dutch in a better way in all its detalis. The practical and remedial pronunciation training is part and parcel of this subject and at the end the student should be aware of the differences between his/her mother tongue and Dutch.
