Course objectives
ANNOTATION: The course is aimed at minimalizing typical mistakes being made by Czech native speakers in translations from Czech to German and vice versa. Those are not only interferential but also contextual and idiomatic ones and they are usually caused by the wrong use of stylistic or language layer. It is the language and cultural competence of a translator that is stressed during it.
Syllabus
  • CURRICUlUM: The purposes of the course are as follows: 1. Establishing typological streaming of the mistakes made. 2. Analyzing mistakes – their causes and training – learning how to anticipate them 3. Drilling practical translating through rendering shorter texts of greater difficulty. 4. It is the ability of students to realize what mistakes they made in the “proces“ od live translating a suppplant the first version with the expression or idiom which is usual (correct) in German.

Assessment methods
One lecture and one seminar per week, integrated in a single 90-minute block. (Presentation of theoretical concepts and reference to specific texts and work with them alternate.) Compulsory attendance; regular class preparation is essential (see the annotation). Credits will be granted upon passing a witten practically oriented exam.
