Course objectives
The course deals with an interdisciplinary and multiparadigmatic explanation of processes within the small social group. There are discussed terminological differences. The course is focused on empirical results of the research of small social group in few past decades. At the end of the course students should be able to: interpret group processes within the frameworks of key theories; understand group dynamics and phases of group dynamics; apply the knowledge on small social groups in educational practice.

  • Social group and theory of social support.
  • Group performance.
  • Time, topography and structure of social group.
  • Social construction of group reality.
  • The role of social group in life cycle.
  • Empirical research on social group.
  • Classroom as a social entity or social group.
  • School climate, classroom climate, school culture, classroom culture.
  • Pedagogical interaction in social groups, teacher, styles of leadership. Power and authority.
