Course objectives

After completing the course students will understand issues of social services provision in the Czech Republic, specifically in the area of social counseling. They will be able to explain basic principles of providing social counseling, including legislative background of the field. In addition, they will be able to theorize the field through postmodern counseling theory. They will also be able to distinguish different target groups of social counseling and select appropriate interventions and actions as well as understand both qualitative and quantitative evaluation tools that are applied within social counseling.

Learning outcomes

Student po absolvování kurzu bude schopen:
- vysvětlit základní principy poskytování sociálního poradenství, vč. legislativního ukotvení dané oblasti;
- charakterizovat jednotlivé cílové skupiny sociálního poradenství;
- navrhnout a zdůvodnit poradenskou intervenci u vybrané cílové skupiny prostřednictvím teorií užívaných v sociální práci a poradenství;
- charakterizovat evaluační postupy a zdůvodnit využití evaluačních nástrojů pro sociální poradenství jako jednoho z typů sociálních služeb.

• 1. Introduction of social services with an emphasis on social counseling, incl. historical development in the area, a principle of social counseling and legal frameworks
• 2. Standards of quality in the social counseling services. Monitoring and evaluation.
• 3. Role of volunteers in social counseling services
• 4. Motivational Interviewing as a way the motivations to change of the clients
• 5. Specifics of social counseling services aimed at target group of the unemployed (youthu at risk+NEETs, long-time unemployed)
• 6. Specifics of social counseling services for the target group of seniors
• 7. Specifics of social counseling services for the target group of ethnic minorities and migrants
• 8. Specifics of social counseling services for the target group of sick and disabled people
• 9.Specifics of social counseling services for the target group of drug-addicted person
• 10. Citizens advice services
• 11. Social Entrepreneurship as a tool of the social counseling services?
