Course objectives
The course deals with contemporary philosophical problems in educational and social sciences. It is based on close and critical readings of secondary sources dealing with philosophy of education. Dialogue and discussion will be main method for seminar sessions. All philosophical problems will be discussed with relation to contemporary theoretical field of qualitative discourse.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
-identify the specifics of the main philosophical concepts in terms of goals, principles, curriculum, teacher-student relationship, forms and methods of teaching
- present the arguments used by the different philosophical concepts of education to defend their practices
- expertly discuss the advantages and the limits of the solutions that each philosophical concept offers for education

  • 3. Research as inquiry for truth.
  • 4. Theory of truth, logic, validity, reliability.
  • 5. Positivism.
  • 6. Pragmatism. Dewey, James.
  • 7. Philosophy of science. Popper, Kuhn.
  • 8. Language and narrative approach.
  • 9. Interakcionis, interpretativism.
  • 10. Method, theory, relationship between theory and practice.
  • 11. Quality in qualitative research.
