Course objectives
Students will experience how to acquire and annotate language data for speech analysis. This collection of data will serve to practical use – it will contribute to the creation of normative data, "indicators" of phenomena that may occur in everyday spoken language. The standard will serve as a control group for possible comparison with a set of patient recordings with impaired communication ability. Each student will be tasked to make 3 recordings of spontaneous speeches in Czech according to specified parameters and rewrite them according to transcription rules taken from the practice. These three recordings will be from one speaker of a certain age category (50–65 years), which will include a description of the picture, spontaneous production on the given topic and repetition of the sentence. The freely available Transcriber tool (http://trans.sourceforge.net) will be used for transcription. If interested, students can continue the work and contribute to the understanding of spoken language in relation to impaired communication skills.
