Course objectives
This course offers a brief introduction into the study of social and cultural issues in the Spanish speaking countries of Latin America.
Learning outcomes
Students will have an understanding of the importance of the historical background, and all decisive circumstances that contributed to the creation of cultural legacies.

Teaching methods
Master classes will focus on an outline of a specific theme, which will be linked to seminars. Students are expected to prepare presentations, that will serve as a starting point for further discussion in class. Homework preparation is required. Students should meet assignment deadlines.
Assessment methods
Attendance is compulsory, regular homework preparation and active involvement in seminars is expected. Presentation of a selected topic in class and a written essay. Final exam: written test (success rate: 70%).
