Course objectives
Psychological laws regarding changes in subjects, effected by educational process. At the end of the course students should understand the basic and latest knowledge of this special discipline. They will be able to apply the theoretical information to practical settings of everyday learning, teaching, education and self-education.
Syllabus
  • 1. Educational psychology. Definition and subject of educational psychology. Educational psychology and related disciplines: general psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, school psychology and education. Educational psychology as a part of psychological studies. Methods in educational psychology. Methods for collecting data: experiment, observation, survey, interview, anamnesis. Methods for exploring data: qualitative and quantitative approaches.
  • 2. The educational, behavioral, and psychological characteristics of a student. Basic paperwork and documentation. Evaluation and classification.
  • 3. Learning. Terminology, definition. Psychology of learning. Aspects of learning process and performance. Learning methods and strategies.
  • 4. Psychological theories of learning. Behaviorism, neobehaviorism, Gestalt theory, connectivism etc.
  • Laws of learning. Motivation. Interference and transfer of human learning. Yerkes-Dodson law. Exercise and effectiveness.
  • 5. Aspects of learning process and performance. Learning environment, resources and personality of teacher.
  • 6. Learning methods and strategies. Knowledge, skills and habits acquisition. Visual perception, abstract thinking and practice. Superlearning, problem-based learning, collaborative learning, overlearning, PQRST etc. Auto-regulation in learning process. Successful and unsuccessful students.
  • 7. Learning styles. Definition, classification and diagnosis of learning styles.
  • 8. Creativity. Definition. Development of creativity. The creative process and its components. Creative process in school.
  • 9. Intellectually gifted children. Recognition and development.
  • 10. Alternative school systems.
