Prerequisites

The course is recommended primarily for foreign students of psychology and related fields that already have the general knowledge of basic psychological disciplines (cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, psychopathology).

Course objectives

The aim of the course is to provide the basic knowledge on the field of clinical psychology, on the approach to mental illness and care of people suffering from mental illness in history and today, on International Classification of Diseases and particular diagnoses regarding ICD-10. The course also intends to encourage students to discuss the topics of clinical psychology in the international context and share their knowledge and experience with the colleagues among the countries.

Learning outcomes

The student is able to:
- explain the development of clinical psychology and the impact of the history to the cotemporary approach to the field
- describe ICD-10 and its parts
- describe the most important diagnoses in the particular ICD-10 parts and name their symptoms
- discuss the impact of the diagnoses on the life of the sufferer and the possibilities of intervention for the patients
- discuss the role of clinical psychologist among several European countries

• 1. History of the clinical psychology, the role of clinical psychologist
• 2. Mental retardation
• 3. Disorders connected to psychoactive drugs abuse
• 4. Organic mental disorders
• 5. Neurotic, stress-related and somatoform disorders
• 6. Mood (affective) disorders
• 7. Personality disorders
• 8. Behavioural syndromes associated with physiological disturbances and physical factors
• 9. Behavioural disorders in neural development
• 10. Behavioural and emotional disorders with onset usually occurring in childhood and adolescence
• 11. Psychotic disorders
