Prerequisites
The students have to be able to follow a presentation and discuss a research topics. After the agreement within the group, the language of communication will be Greek, English, or both.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to bring together MA and PhD students dealing with Byzantine and Modern Greek themes and visiting students from abroad being interested in these fields, in order excersise scholarly discussions and obtain feedback to their own research. Every student will give a short presentation of a chosen theme (his/her own research topic or a theme of his/her interest), and offer a piece of secondary literature or a source for home reading and following class discussion.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the students will be able to present concisely and clearly a research topic, will have experience with scholarly discussions, and will improve their ability to read and undesrtand scholarly papers. They also will have a deeper insight in several research topics of Byzantine and Modern Greek studies.
Syllabus
  • Introductory meeting, chosing the themes for presentation, preparing the semester schedule.
  • Individual presentations.
  • Class discussions.
  • Closing workshop.
Literature
  • The bibliography will be provided by the students themselves.
Teaching methods
Students' presentations. Home reading and prepararation for the discussions. Discussion, reacting on questions and remarks.
Assessment methods
In order to fulfill the course requirements, the students have to give a presentation, to prepare systematically for the classes by reading the offered materials and to participate actively in the class discussions.
