Course objectives
The aim of the course is developing professional competences, getting acquainted with the roles of the teacher possible in his practice, understanding personal needs and achieving recognition as a teacher.
The course “Teaching Practice – Observation” comes before the “Teaching Practice” and teaching practice and is held every semester. The practice is realized predominantly at secondary schools, or lower secondary schools. The student will have objective and then teaching practice at the same school.
During the course Teaching Practice – Observation the students will gain:
- the experience of school practice at the example of teaching of experienced teachers;
- the models of dealing with the more and the less standard situations in teaching and activization and motivation the listeners of secondary and primary schools in various periods of teaching process;
- the introduction to managing the evidence of classes including attendance;
- the models for teaching with textbooks, didactic technics and additional materials prepared by the teacher according to the certain needs;
- possibilities of using different forms of checking the knowledge and skills of learners;
- experience with flexible reaction on the situations during classes;
- concrete examples of dealing with the paperwork of the subject (School Education Programme and other school/class documentation);
- the possibility of discussion with the teachers the reasons of the certain responses on classes organization and maintaining the discipline in the conditions they observed;
- material for complex reflexive observation.
Learning outcomes
The “Teaching Practice – Observation” will introduce students to the real conditions of teaching Russian language and literature on the example of the concrete secondary schools or lower secondary schools, teachers, learners, including the particular examples of how to prepare the teaching unit with regard to School Education Programme and specific needs of the group. The experienced teachers will help the students to gain the examples for their own active work and prepare them to their individual teaching performances.
The student will be able:
- to understand his own professional needs;
- to deepen the reflexive and self-reflexive skills;
- to connect theoretical knowledge gained in courses of pedagogics, psychology and studying programme with practical examples of real teaching;
- to reflect his experience after objected classes with the moderator teacher and with the subject didact;
- to work out the coursework on the basis of the materials gained for complex reflection of observation.
Syllabus
  • The basic scheme of the course:
  • 1. To make an agreement of teaching practice with the concrete school. Familiarization with the school working; familiarization with the teaching documentation and preparations for classes in the practice of the moderator teacher (20 hours).
  • 2. Personal observation at certain classes of Russian language and literature (20 hours).
  • 3. Discussion with moderator teacher after observational classes (10 hours).
  • 4. Reflection of observation practice under the guarantee of the professional didact (10 hours).
  • 5. Comparing theoretical postulates and their usage in practice: working on coursework (20 hours).

- studying of teaching (school/class) documentation;
- contemplation and recording of observation during the classes;
- analysis of the work of moderator teachers in the concrete classes;
- discussion with the moderator teacher;
- working on basis for written reflection of the observation;
- keeping a pedagogical diary as a tool to support reflection and self-reflection;
- fulfillment of possible (assigned) tasks in the teacher portfolio;
- submission of the practice diary for inspection.
