Course objectives
The aim of the course is the development of the students’ skills in reading the Russian literature (both in original and translated) and then deepening the skill of analysing and interpreting the certain works, texts or passages. The emphasis will be put on the works setting in cultural and historical context, on their genre delimitation and on the analysis of their content regarding to using texts when teaching at secondary schools. The students will independently read the selected literary works during the semester and them on the seminar discussion analyse it under the supervision of the teacher. The students will read 8 works during the semester.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the student will:
- have the broaden and deepen knowledge of the Russian literature;
- have the broaden skills critical reading of the literary works;
- get acquainted in detail with the 8 key texts of the Russian literature (according to interests and needs of the particular students);
- be able to interpret them;
- to understand the social, cultural and historical context of the texts;
- to interpret the significant works of Russian literature and to make this interpretation easy enough for the secondary school student to understand it;
- to choose the passages that will be appropriate for accompanying the lecture about the Russian literature and about the Russian cultural and historical realia from the literary works.

  • The syllabus of the course is changeable as the subject includes the independent reading of literary texts according to needs and interests of the singular students and the following analysis at seminars.
