Cíle předmětu
The goals of the course are to understand and perceive the importance of the visual arts in religious cultures, especially in Christianity. In the course, students learn about basic concepts of iconography, iconology and they are introduced into the analysis of iconographic themes. Through visual presentation, students can identify the main iconographic themes of the eras of Christian art. They understand the connection between artwork and the intention of the Church, to transmit the teachings of theology and religious ideology.
Výstupy z učení
With accomplishing the course students will be able to define the importance of the visual art and iconography in the early and Medieval Christian culture. They will be able to recognise the different styles and to identify the main iconographic themes of the eras of Christian art. They will be able to understand the connection between artwork and the intention of the Church to transmit the teachings of theology and religious ideology.

Lectures, discussions, reading.
Metody hodnocení
Bachelor students (4 credits) Test in the exam period (in January) on the themes of the course – 10 question. Master students (5 credit) Test in the exam period (in January) on the themes of the course – 10 question and a short essay (1 page) – an analysis on a work of Art (on a Religious theme), using the studied terminology of Iconography.
