Course objectives

This course introduces the basics of academic publishing. The seminar discussions introduce doctoral students to the review and editorial process in humanities and social science journals. The students prepare a publication project immediately related to their dissertation, choose an appropriate journal in cooperation with their supervisors, and present their project during the seminars.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

understand the basics of the review and editorial processes;

choose the appropriate journal for their article in progress;

justify their decision about the target journal;

explain the state of the art and the theoretical background of their publication project;

react to questions concerning their publication project.

Teaching methods

Seminar discussions. Student presentations of their publication projects.

Assessment methods

Students devise and present their publication project. The persuasiveness of the presentation and participation in the discussion constitutes 100 percent of the evaluation criteria.
