Course objectives
The course covers a research stay at a university or research institution outside the Czech Republic for at least 30 days (recommended 90 or more days). It focuses on the development of the students' skills and competence with respect to conducting independent academic research. Students use the research stay to work on their dissertation.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
  • plan a research stay realistically and efficiently;
  • achieve major progress on the dissertation;
  • systematically archive and classify data and write up a literature review for the dissertation.
  • Syllabus
    • ● The content of the course is arranged individually according to the progress of the respective student's studies and thesis. The following phases are required:
    • 1. Before departure, the student submits an exact plan for his/her stay. This plan has to be discussed with the supervisor and is uploaded into IS.
    • 2. All changes to the plan which occur during the research stay have to be negotiated with the course coordinator and supervisor.
    • 3. After return, a report on the research stay is uploaded into IS
    • 4. The student also submits a report which is intended as a guide for future students going to the same institution.

    Teaching methods
    Individual consultations, reading, written feedback.
    Assessment methods
    The students are required to:
    (a) create a plan for their stay abroad (20%);
    (b) submit a final report and show materials they have gathered during their research stay. The amount, relevance, and quality of the materials and their archiving will be assessed (60%);
    (c) report on the stay for other students (20%).
