Course objectives
It is expected to further develop students’ communicational skills in Russian putting emphasis on removal of obstacles caused by Czech-Russian interference in grammar and vocabulary. The whole semester is focused on the verb as the inflectionally richest part of speech, the relations of the verb government and the word semantics. Exercises are focused on Russian prefix verbs and are arranged according to increasing complexity: the explanation of the meaning, the multiple choice, understanding of stylistic applicability, problematic syntactical verb patterns. The module is drawn up as a confrontation of Czech and Russian so that the special emphasis is put on the phenomena different from the native tongue as well as interference phenomena. The great attention is paid to phraseological issue: acquire Russian phraseology by the Czech speaker, universal and national specific thematical blocks in phraseology, translatable and untranslatable, and their integration into communication cycle, antonymic and synonymic relations in phraseology. Phraseology overview: the emphasis is put on understanding the translated text as the unit with functional and stylistic as well as intertextual connections and relations, but also with individual author’s specifics of using phraseology.
The module also provides the students with the information about the Russian cultural realia, introduces the students to the certain new aspects of Russian language culture, includes reading and translating original Russian artistic and special texts.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the student will be able: - to determine the function and the meaning of the prefix (prefixed verb) - to recognize the interference of meanings of formally close verbs;
- to determine the relations of verb prefix and preposition in relevant verb government;
- to correctly give verbs prefixes;
- to correctly interpret the meaning of prefixed verbs and to correctly use them;
- to manage to choose the correct form of prefixed verbs and to use it in sentences;
- to determine the contextual use of phrasal idiom and to choose responding variant of phrasal idiom in Czech;
- to communicate on the discussed topics;
- to use the discussed vocabulary.
Syllabus
  • 1. Aspectual pairs of the prefixed verb “bit’”, the Czech–Russian interferences while translating. Phraseology in a system of linguistic disciplines.
  • 2. Aspectual pairs of the prefixed verb “brat’” (style differences), the Czech–Russian interferences while translating. Sameness in phraseology in the related languages.
  • 3. The lexical-semantic exercises focused on explanatory semantization. The verbs “brosat’”, “brosit’”. The Czech–Russian phraseology.
  • 4. Aspectual pairs of the prefixed verb “govorit’”. Phrasal idioms groups with the same semantics, phrasal idioms with the meaning “very much / a lot of”.
  • 5. Aspectual pairs of the prefixed verb “dat’”. Constructions and figures of speech typical for colloquial style of Russian („čto ni…, to… “; „gde tam… “aj.).
  • 6. Aspectual pairs of the prefixed verb “dumat’”. Phraseological collocations. Ways of comparison in the Russian language.
  • 7. Aspectual pairs of the prefixed verb “zhit’”. Expressing of intensity in the Russian language (lexical, phraseological and lexical-morphological ways of expressing of intensiry in the Russian language).
  • 8. Aspectual pairs of the prefixed verb “pisat’”. Semantic exercises on polysemy. Phraseological neologisms.
  • 9. Aspectual pairs of the prefixed verb “platit’”. Collocational phrasal idioms. Comparison as a specific type of phrasal idiom.
  • 10. Aspectual pairs of the prefixed verb “pomnit’”. Semantic exercises on synonymy.
  • 11. The revision of the learned prefixed verbs. Proposition phrasal idioms.
  • 12. The revision of the learned prefixed verbs. Vocabulary of the topic “Holidays and connected with them traditions in Russia”.
