Course objectives
The subjects An Overview of Russian Literature I and II introduce the basic courses of Russian literary history. They aim to give a general overview of Russian literature and culture from historical background. They will provide the students with key authors, works, currents, movements, and groups in a chronological sequence that characterize Russian culture and literature from the oldest times up to now (accentuating the 19–21-century literature), in connection to the social and political development of Russia. The meaning of the courses is not only a necessary factual account, but, above all, the knowledge of the social and aesthetic significance of Russian literature and its crucial texts for world literature, culture, and the cultivation of man and his world. The courses include independent reading.
