Course objectives
The course is focused on practical aspects of the translator profession and on the tools used when translating, ranging from the traditional ones to the latest developments. The course will include efficient use of the Internet for gaining the information, both factual and linguistic. The teaching, based on teachersʼ (and translatorsʼ) experience, acquired both in the Czech Republic and abroad, will point out the necessity of collaboration among translators and use of the latest technology. The course will draw students' attention to some of the translator guilds and provide useful advice and recommendation for the budding freelancer.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- more effectively use computer, information resources and dictionaries when translating,
- basically work with CAT tools,
- be aware of the administrative and commercial aspects of professional translation work.
