Course objectives
The course offers a brief survey of the history of the Iberian Peninsula (from the Prehistorical period up to the 20th century). The aim of the course is to make students acquainted with the background of the historical development within the most important periods. At the end of this course, students should be able to define basic notions not only of the historical aspects, but also of the artistic and literary context in question.
Learning outcomes
Students should be able to classify a given historical period and the most important historical figures, as well as the most outstanding literates and artists.

  • 1. Prehistory. 2. The first colonization of the Peninsula. 3. Historical period of Iberia 4. The period of the Roman colonization. 5. The kingdom of the Visigods; 6. Musluman dominion and Al-Andalus; 7. The Catholic Majesties, Isabel of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon. 8. The Habsburgs. 9. The Bourbons. 10. Alfonso XIII. 11. The Spanish Civil War. 12. Frankism. Juana Carlos I.

Teaching methods
Lecture: description of the historical field, explanation and definition of basic notions. Demonstration of possible approaches to particular historical periods and important figures on various texts by different authors. Additional study material and mock tests are available in ELF.
Assessment methods
Written test (credit). Credit: is obtained for successfully completing a final test (success rate 70 %) where students prove their knowledge.
