Course objectives
The main aim of the course is to offer a general overview on the evolution of the Spanish language since the beginning of the medieval Castilian till modern Spanish. Once finished the course, the student will be able to identify and interpret the internal characteristics of the Spanish language evolution (phonetic and phonological, morphosyntactic and lexical-semantic ones) in their external context, mainly social-historical, and their stylistic values.

Teaching methods
Lectures, obligatory reading tasks, class discussion, working in groups on old Castilian and Spanish texts.
Assessment methods
Written test that will consist of five questions on subjects included in syllabus and a short analysis of a fragment of text (similar to texts commented in class). The final grade will depend on the level of homeworks.
