Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to describe both phonetic and phonemic systems of Slovak language, to analyse problems in both systems and to apply their knowledges on the language data.

Assessment methods
The course deals with the basics of phonology and phonetics and research methods, phonology of Slovak, phonemes, prosodic features with stress on the role of long vowels, rhythm in vowel shortening and its effect on morphology, codification of the language and prosody in poetry. Czech and Slovak phonetics and orthoepics will be contrasted. Final exam consists in a discussion on the topics addressed in lectures and studied in self-study, phonetic analysis and transcription. The syllabus provides information needed for revision before the exam.
