This course is aimed at first year trainees on the MA programme and should be taken before Methodology 2 and teaching practice.

Cíle předmětu
The aim of this course for the participants is to acquire the knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of teaching English to speakers of other languages and thus to lay the foundations for the participants to become effective teachers of English when they expand their knowledge and combine it with their practical skills development during the course UZAJ203 - Practice teaching - in the following semester.
By the end of the course participants will have been introduced to and have a basic understanding of:
1. How learners acquire the four Language systems (vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, functions)and Language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing).
2. What is involved in order to effectively teach the Language systems and skills to speakers of other languages.
3. What classroom management comprises, how and when to correct learners' errors, and the steps necessary in order to plan a lesson effectively.
By the end of the course the participants should also have a sound knowledge of and be able to use the basic terminology found in current ELT literature.
Výstupy z učení
By the end of the courses the trainees will have: - considered how learners acquire the four language systems (vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, functions)and language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing).
- examined what is involved in order to effectively teach the language systems and skills to speakers of other languages.
- a sound knowledge of and be able to use the basic terminology found in current ELT literature.
Osnova
  • The course comprises online asynchronous, reading and discussion based modules, which deal with the teaching of the systems and skills in English. The following topics will be addressed during the semester: 1. Welcome module - what makes a good teacher? 2. Classroom Management 3. Teaching Vocabulary 4. Teaching Pronunciation 5. Presenting Language 6. Teaching Functional Language (Functions) 7. Teaching Listening 8. Teaching Reading 9. Teaching Speaking 10. Teaching Writing. There are no face-to-face sessions.
