Course objectives
The course is focused on the crucial moments of the history of music in the 19th century, especially in field of the stage music.

  • 1. Summary of the crucial moments of the music development in the 19th century, situation of the research, methodology
  • 2. Song works,Schubert, Schumann, Mahler
  • 3. Problematics of the programe music, Eduard Hanslick: On the Musically Beautiful. Dispute over the music content
  • 4. Opera in the 19th century. Richard Wagner and his reform
