Course objectives
The aim of this course is to provide students with the overview of changes in library work after 1989, new methods and standards and information services and make them acquainted with the work of the library as a cultural, educational and information centre of a region. At the end of the course students should be able to understand the significance of the national library system, to characterize the mission and services of different types of libraries, to explain cultural and educational functions of libraries, to understand their significance for the society and long-life education of citizens and to submit suggestions for modernization of library and information services.

  • Czech librarianship history. Development of librarianship since 1989. Significance of libraries for the society and long-life education of citizens. Organization of librarianship and libraries. Library legislation, standards. Library and information services. Information literacy and information education in libraries. Library performance measurement. Library trends.
