Course objectives
The main objective is to strengthen oral and written competence in the Portuguese language 1. to know the main differences between several styles of texts 2.to develop skills on producing oral and written texts 3.to increase the language domain in both argumentative and descriptive contexts.
Syllabus
  • Focus is placed on phraseology and idioms in everyday use. Practicing translation of chosen texts and audiovisual materials. 1. Vocabulary, phraseology, idioms related to some specific areas (science and education,arts, cinema, theatre, environment etc.) 2. Practising oral and written portuguese (reading texts from the above mentioned areas,writing an essay) 3.Study of oral and written texts presented in class, specially regarding texts developing description and argumentation skills. Loud reading will be completed by written exercises.

Teaching methods
The classwork has a form of seminar. Focus is placed on phraseology and idioms in everyday use. Practicing translation of chosen texts and audiovisual materials. Presentation and discussion of several textes, completed by interpretation exercises.
Assessment methods
Seminar, written essay-in portuguese, lenght 2-3np. Continuous evaluation and homework: 20% Final evaluation text: 80%
