Cíle předmětu
The aim of the course is: to make the students familiar with main traditional as well as modern approaches used in the analysis of the grammatical development of Modern Greek during the Hellenistic period; to apply these approaches while analysing from the linguistic point of view the Greek texts of the above mentioned periods.
Výstupy z učení
At the end of the course, students will be able to describe key aspects of the grammatical development of the Modern Greek language during the Hellenistic period with the help of various methods of historical and historical-comparative linguistics. They will be capable of analysing Greek texts from the linguistic point of view.
Osnova
  • 1. Emergence of the koine and its definition: approaches and problems. The role of the Hellenistic and Roman Koine in the development of Modern Greek.
  • 2. General principles of the disappearance of the dialect, dialectal convergence. Theories concerning the disappearance of Ancient Greek dialects.
  • 3. Main tendencies of the vowel development in Hellenistic Koine (monophthongization, disappearance of vowel length); problems concerning the prosodic model of Greek.
  • 4. Restructuring of the consonant system of Hellenistic Koine: explosives; spirantization, the genesis of new phonemes.
  • 5. Restructuring of the consonant system of Hellenistic Koine: degemination, sonorants, psilosis.
  • 6. Restructuring of nominal morphology system of Hellenistic Koine; the emergence of Modern Greek declination system.
  • 7. Restructuring of verbal system of Hellenistic Koine: category of future, aorist, perfect. Aktionsart.
  • 8. Restructuring of verbal system of Hellenistic Koine: infinitives, participles. Periphrastic constructions.
  • 9. Problems of the syntactic development of Hellenistic Koine; parataxis and hypotaxis; nominal syntax.
  • 10. Problems of the word order (V-S-O, S-V-O languages); change of the word order in Greek.
  • 11. Emergence of a new lexicon in a language; lexicon of Hellenistic and Roman Koine.
  • 12. Emergence and classification of diglossia; Greek diglossia, atticism.
  • 13. Revision.
  • Lectures are supplemented by reading and analysing Greek literary and non-literary texts.

Výukové metody
Planned learning activities and teaching methods consist of lectures, readings and analysis of Greek texts.
Metody hodnocení
Credits are awarded for active participation in the lessons and the oral exam (50 % of correct answers is needed to pass), testing also the student's ability to analyse from the linguistic point of view selected Greek text.
