Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand and apply the methods used in skeletal anthropology and methods used for studies of living human.
Syllabus
  • Human skeleton and human dentition. Anatomical terminology. Types of bones of human skeleton. Determination of individual bones and teeth.
  • Sex and age estimation from skeletal material (morphoscopical, morphometric methods).
  • Homo floresiensis.
  • Dermatoglyphics. Dermatoglyphic patterns, fingerprints.
  • Anthropometry.Basic physical parameters and indexes.
  • Body composition. Methods of estimation body composition. BMI, FMI, Rohrer´s index, WHR index.
  • Typology. History of typology. Variability of body types.
  • Somatoscopy. Descriptive marks on head (forehead area, nose area, lips and chin area, eyes area, auricle area, hair and beard). Descriptive marks on body (chest, upper limb, lower limb).
