Course objectives
Passing through this course student should be able to:
utilize the most important methods for measurement of the rate of plant biomass production;
evaluate the factors that significantly affect production processes in plants;
use appropriate mathematical model for prediction of plant productivity.
Syllabus
  • Measurement of microclimatic factors in the field
  • Absorption of the irradiance by leaf and canopy
  • Plant cultivation in experimental setup
  • Measurement the rate of photosynthesis
  • Effects of photoinhibition in leaves
  • Gasometric measurements of respiration and transpiration
  • Use of automatic datalogging systems for data acquisition in the field
  • Practical measurements in the field
  • Mathematical modeling of plant production
  • Future prospects and use of plant production analysis

Practical training (laboratory exercises and measurements in the field) exploiting biometric, biophysical and biochemical methods and modern techniques and instruments.
Assessment methods
Complete protocols with results of measurements for all topics. Final written test.
