Course objectives
The main objectives of this curse is focused on the fundamental overview of the environemntal impact of anthropogennic technologies. Students will learn about the main types of technologies which affect the environmentCourse is oriented to the understanding of main technological principles for the providing of clean air, water tretment and purification, waste disposal. A special attention will be given to the understanding of the principles of best available techniques and best environemntal practices and also to the disposal of the persistent substances and waste with their contents. Students will obtain fundamental knowledge concerning to the methods applicable for the remediation of contaminated soils and sediments.

  • Anthropogenic environmental activities – definition, risks.
  • Main types of technologies with negative environmental effects.
  • Electric power plants – main types, present state and alternatives.
  • Incinerators.
  • Chemical industry. Petrochemical industry.
  • Ferrous and non-ferrous metalurgy, production of coke.
  • Forestry products industry, pulp and paper industry.
  • Food and animal processing industries.
  • Traffic.
  • Agriculture.
  • Waste gas purification – desulfurication, denitrification, dust separation.
  • Water treatment – mechanical, chemical, biological, technological processes, sewage sludge.
  • Wastes – types, evaluation, toxicity, methods of disposal.
  • Disposal of persistent substances and wastes with their contents.
  • Remediation of contaminated soils and sediments. Physical, chemical and biological methods of remediation.
