Course objectives
At the end of this course the student will be able to: understand and explain the phenomena concerning ionizing radiation and its effects on living organisms, to use the information about the physical processes to assess their impact on the environment
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- describe and explain the formation of ionizing radiation;
- Understand the measurement and application processes of ionizing radiation;
- characterize and formulate applications of ionizing radiation in medicine;
- assess the suitability of individual sources of ionizing radiation for the treatment of cancer;
- define plasma and explain its properties;
- describe basic processes of formation of active species in plasma;
- to discuss and evaluate the properties and applications of individual plasma sources;
- Understand the basic processes of plasma-liquid interaction;
- describe and assess the application of plasma in medicine;
Syllabus
  • Matter structure and elementary particles.
  • ionizing radiation: electromagnetic spectra, particle spectra - definitions, measurement, units.
  • ionizing radiation: Applications - Nuclear reactions and energy, medical applications, detectors.
  • Mechanical waves - Sound and its effects.
  • Plasma and its environmental applications.
