Course objectives
This course is registered at the autumn term by the students of the 1st year of MSc specializations of Biochemistry. However, it is convenient to realize this course during the vacation period in advance. The duration of the course is three weeks, it is a practical placement in a suitable biochemistry-related facility, company, or research institute based on an own choice (in order to select suitable time period). Most often, students participate at the clinical analytical laboratories in hospitals (the vaccination against hepatitis B must be taken in advance), biochemical or biotechnological companies or research institutes. For those who have already passed a similar experience during previous jobs or practical courses and some formal confirmation will be presented, this might be accepted as an alternative realization of this course. Before starting the practical placement, student will receive a letter of recommendation and two forms of agreement between MU and the partner organization, one confirmed agreement should be returned to MU.
Syllabus
  • preparation for practical placement, studying of safety regulations, working procedures and regulations of the place, where the practice is realized
  • studying of technical literature, metods, manuals and other resourced related to the subject of the practice
  • realization of the practical placement (duration of 3 weeks) - according to suggestions and requirements of the supervisor from the organization where the practice is realized
  • during practice, all work carried out should be documented carefully, written notes should be taken appropriately, photos of unique instrumentation might be taken (if approved by the local supervisor) as these would be very useful for preparation of presentation for the future seminar
