Prerequisites (in Czech)
Žádné speciální astronomické znalosti nejsou vyžadovány. Každý by měl znát matematiku a fyziku ve středoškolském rozsahu - co je nadto, bude vysvětleno (proto je vhodné i pro studenty prvního semestru a také zaměření jiných než v kombinaci s matematikou a fyzikou).

Course objectives
The aim of this course (and following course F2252 Basic of astronomy 2) is to bring into line and harmonise basic astronomical knowlodge. After this course student is able effectively study following astronomical courses. This course is meant especially to them, who do not have basic astronomical knowledge yet and want to study astrophysics or for all who are interesting in astronomy and astrophysics. It is suitable for advanced amateur astronomers, teachers, editors, popularizers.
Syllabus
  • The textbook of the whole course (together with following course F2252) is available in pdf file on http://astro.physics.muni.cz or on http://www.physics.muni.cz/~zejda/student.html. Outline: Historical and terminological lead-in. Astronomy by naked eye.
  • Night sky - planets, comets, meteors, satellites. Stars - names, designations, types. Stellar clusters, nebulaes, galaxies.
  • Astronomical geography. Astronomical co-ordinates. Time. Motions of stars, Sun, Moon.
  • Solar and Moon eclipses. Moon phases. Aspekts. Kepler's laws.
  • Radiation - source of information. Doppler's effect. Astronomy by simple instruments. Eye.
  • Optical telescopes - mounts, parameters. Radio-, neutrin- and other telescopes. Space telescopes.
  • Photometric quantities. Pogson's equations. Bolometric correction. Colour indices.
  • Black body radiation. Spectroscopy. Stellar spectra.
  • Measuring of distance in universe. Stellar masses, dimensions.
  • Structure of stars and planets.
  • HR diagram.

Teaching methods
lectures, class discussion, laboratory exercises, exercises, homeworks
Assessment methods
Classic lectures, practical works and class exercises, added by observations. Written documents for practical works are in textbook on http://astro.physics.muni.cz or http://www.physics.muni.cz/~zejda/student.html. Credit will be granted after the processing of practical exercises, successful passing of two tests and discharging of the participation limit at exercises. At the exam students must pass the written part (test and problems) and oral conversation, which confirms that student understands solved selected practical exercises problems and is able to answer and explain selected question.
