Course objectives
Student will learn computations of stress and strain tensors within the framework of linear isotropic elasticity of continuum. Student will learn basic types of mechanical tests and parameters measured by these tests. Student will learn basic of theory of dislocations and mechanisms of plastic deformation in crystalline materials. Student will become acquainted with experimental techniques and results in fatigue of materials, creep, fracture mechanics, electron microscopy and multiscale modelling of materials.
Learning outcomes
Same as the goals of the course.
Syllabus
  • Definitions of stress and strain, Hooke’s law, Mohr’s diagram, simple examples in continuum mechanics.
