Course objectives
The main objectives of the course are:
a) characteristics of basic geological units in the Czech Republic;
b) the influence of individual orogeneses on the development of the Bohemian Massif;
c) age, lithology, magmatic and metamorphic development of proterozoic and paleozoic units in the Bohemian Massif;
d) development of the Bohemian Massif during the Upper Carboniferous and Permian;
e) development of the Bohemian Massif platform from Triassic to Quaternary;
f) age, lithology and magmatic development of individual units of the Western Carpathians in the territory of the Czech Republic;
(g) working with geological maps, mostly in scale 1:500000;
h) Typical rock types.

Teaching methods
lectures, practical map interpretation
Assessment methods
It is necessary to pass seminars (searching in geological maps, study of rock samples) that are finished by two written tests. Final oral examen checks also knowledge of geological map and rock samples. It is recommended to pass field excursion focussed on the geology of the Bohemian Massif. The number of students at individual exam terms will be regulated according to current crisis measures in spring semester 2021. In case of completely critical situation, the completion of the course will be in a distance form in spring semester 2021.
