Course objectives
Students can apply general principles of geology in solving environmental problems. They will be able to define (1) planet systems and cycles, (2) to recognize hazardous geologic processes, (3) to analyse natural resources and the impact of their use to environment, (4) to interpret of types and migration of contaminants in environment, and (5) to apply principles of minimalization of human impact to environment and risk analysis.
Syllabus
  • 1. Main concepts and aims, 2. Planetary systems and main cycles, 4. Hazardous geological processes, 5. Use of natural resources, energy sources, 6. Mineral resources: Impact of mining on environment, 7. Contaminants in environment, soil, 8. Water, 9. Waste production and management, 10. Solid and radioactive waste, 11. Atmosphere and its global endangering, 12. Lowering the impact and contamination
