Course objectives
The aim of the lecture is to acquaint students with the basic terminology in the field of extraterrestrial bodies, the way of their classification, the phenomena and their examples, as well as the consequences of their interaction with the Earth.
Learning outcomes
The aim of the lecture is to acquaint students with the basic terminology in the field of extraterrestrial bodies, the way of their classification, the phenomena and their examples, as well as the consequences of their interaction with the Earth. The main output of the course will be the ability of students to orient themselves in basic terminology in the field of extraterrestrial bodies, their classification, mineralogy and petrography. Students will learn on the examples of impact craters on the Earth to describe their structure and processes occuring during such events.
Syllabus
  • In the first part students will get acquainted with the basic terminology of the given issue. Furthermore, they will get knowledges about the classification of extraterrestrial bodies based on their characteristics. There will be presented examples of interactions of these bodies with the Earth and their consequences. Part of the lecture will be a review of examples of various types of meteorites and tektite, or impact rocks.
