Course objectives
Obligatory selective lecture is necessary to the public exam from mineralogy. It is develop the basic lecture Mineralogy I in fundamental study. The main objectives are: the enlargement of education in crystal chemistry, morphology and structural crystallography with respect to the real crystal structure of the materials (minerals), the bases of elemental relationships and quantity of the X-ray powder diffraction methods, basic informations about the crystallographic description of structures (crystallography tables, structural databases). At the end of the course students should be able to do crystalographical analysis of samples.
Syllabus
  • structure of atoms, chemical bindings, molecule orbital coordination of ions, ions radius, Pauling rules crystalline matter definition, amorphous matter symmetry; elements, operations and groups of symmetry structural lattice, reciprocal lattice, basic cell, Bravais cells defects in the structural lattice space groups, international tables of the crystallography point groups informations about the structure of the minerals: the Laue condition, the Bragg equation the diffraction records, indexing of the diffraction, cell parameters the basic structural quantities and its influence to the diffraction intensity: absorption factor, Lorentz and polarization factor, structural factor, microabsorption.
