Course objectives

Lectures on pedology familiarises students with basic pedological concepts, makes the aquaitance with basic physical and chemical characteristics of soils. The special attention is given to the problematics of pedogenetical processes which are responsible for the formation of individual soil types. The emphasis is put to the understanding of the soil as an open live system. The present soil classification and distribution of single soil types within the area of the Czech Republic as a result of substrate conditions, climatic conditions, etc., is the part of the subject. Studets try to both describe and classify the selected soil profile under the terms of practical part of lectures.

Syllabus (in Czech)

• 1. Pojem půdy vymezení pedologie (pojem půdy, půdní systém, půdy jako krajinný systém 2. Půdní znaky (hloubka půdy a humusového horizontu, barva, struktura půd a půdní mikromorfologie, textura půd, skeletovitost, vlhkostní poměry, konzistence, novotvary, prokořenění, oživení) a půdní vlastnosti (fyzikální: zrnitost, měrná hmotnost, objemová hmotnost, pórovitost; chemické: obsah a složení humusu, převažující typ jílových minerálů, minerální síla půdotvorného substrátu, obsah karbonátů, výměnná půdní reakce, výměnná sorpční kapacita, nasycení sorpčního komplexu, obsah přijatelných rostlinných živin, typ a stupeň zasolení 3. Režimy půd 4. Obecná pedogeneze (základní problémy pedogeneze) a speciální pedogenetické procesy (zvětrávání, humifikace, eluviace, iluviace, oglejení a glejový proces, solončakování, slancování) 5. Klasifikace půd (půdní profil, diagnostické horizonty, charakteristiky a označení půdních horizontů, diagnostika půdních tříd, typů a subtypů 6. Environmentální pedologie (kvalita půdy, fyzikální procesy ovlivňující kvalitu půd, rizikové látky v půdách, vliv hospodaření na kvalitu a biodiverzitu půd, zemědělská antropizace půd
