Course objectives
The aim of the course is to extend student's knowledge in engineering geology.
Learning outcomes
After the course, students will be able to apply engeneering geology in the firm.
Syllabus
  • 1) Unification of geotechnical engineering and geology (physical properties, classification after ČSN 73 6133, , ČSN EN ISO 14688, 14689) 2) Geostatic pressure, groundwater pressure, pore pressure, effective and total strengths, geotechnical category 3) I would like to build a house, what shall I do? Engineering geology and hydrogeological survey methods. 4) Total and effective soil properties, a pore pressure, laboratory soil tests 5) My intention is to evaluate a slope stability, what shall I do? A numerical slope stability back analysis 6) Clay minerals, properties, compressibility, swelling, settlement of loess blanket and designed buildings 7) I design a warehouse foundations, what sort of a geological investigation I would arrange/draft for? Designed building foundation load, foundation soil reaction, shallow and deep foundations. 8) I would like to design a building on a potentially unstable slope, what I have to do? 9) Rock slope stabilisation by the use of rock bolts, rock properties and classification, rock bolts and nails types 10) Traffic tunnels (blasted and excavated), traffic bridges, a geotechnical investigation draft, a construction supervision 11) Traffic constructions geotechnical investigation 12) Static and dynamic penetration tests and assessments, non-typical investigation in situ and lab. methods, a comparison of NZS, ISO, EC, ČSN, AU standards 13) Earthquake, soil liquefaction, on peat building foundation, liquid sands 14) Student’s technical theses presentations
