Course objectives
A principal aim is demonstrate the most important source of raw materials in the region and explain the reasons of its distribution.
Learning outcomes
Students can discuss a historic and present importance of regional sources of raw materials. They can demonstrate an overview on genetic types of raw materials in the region, compare its geologic structure and explain a dependence on development of geological units, if any metallogenetic units.
Syllabus
  • 1.History of mining in Moravia. 2. Oil, gas. 3. Coal, uranium. 4. More important occurrences and historical deposits, subeconomic resources (Fe, Pb-Zn, Cu, Au, Ag), subprovinces and metallogenetic regions. 4a. Economic and/or metallogeneticaly important endogenic mineralizations (Zlaté Hory deposit, post-Variscan polymetallic mineralizations). 5. Deposits of industrial minerals and rocks - gipsum, limestones, shales, graphite. 6. Deposits of construction raw materials - stone, gravels, brick earth, slates. 7. Geological aspects of distribution of ores, industrial minerals and fossil fuels in the region.
