Course objectives
The course is devoted mainly to the students of geology (master program) interested in hydrogeology. The main goal of the course is the intensification of the knowledge about the physicochemical properties of water and properties of aqueous solutions commonly found in nature.
Syllabus
  • Chemical and physical properties of water; structure, bonds
  • Dissolution of solids; dissolution of gasses (partial pressure, Henry's Law, dissolution of O2, N2, CO2).
  • Forms dissolved components in water; homogenous and heterogenous systems, true and colloid solutions, suspensions; ions, complexes, organic complexes.
  • Acid - base reasctions; water dissociation, pH, salinity and alkalinity; solutions classifications.
  • Partial pressure of the CO2; dissociation.
  • Oxidation - reduction reactions
  • Corrosion of the concrete and steel constructions
  • Changing of water properties
