Course objectives
Radioactivity and the environment, radon and his daughter products, influence of radon on human health. Main sources of radon (geological underlier, building materials, water atmosphere). Natural radioactivity of rocks and ground geochemical character of uranium and thorium. Uranium and thorium in magmatic and hypergenous process. Radioactivity of rocks of the Czech Massif and Western Carpathians. Changes in rocks and their radioactivity, radioactivity and rocks age, radioactivity and the deep structural levels of the Czech Massif. Determination of level of the basement penetration. Measurement of the natural radioactivity, aims of measurement, general principles of methods of measurement. Determination of radon and his daughter products in the atmosphere. Measurement of gama doses equivalent. Determination of radioactivity of building materials. Determination of radon concentration in water. Determination of radon risk of the geological underlier. Devices for measurement of radon, license and conclusive evidence for measurement. Practical illustration of devices and demonstration of most usual methods for measurement of radon. Determination of natural radioactivity of rocks. Legislative questions of radon problems in Czech republic. Protection of objects against radon and execution of relevant remedial arrangements.
