Prerequisites
Successful completion of the course G5081 Geochemistry.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
there are 48 fields of study the course is directly associated with, display
Course objectives
The basic aim of the course is explanation of priciples determinig stability of natural systems and factor influncing rate of natural processes. At the end of course the student should be able to determine conditions at which the system will be stable and the conditions at wich system will have tendecy to change its state.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to: - understand the difference between static and dynamic systems and characterize differences in their behavior - characterize the differences between the thermodynamic equilibrium and the stationary state of the natural systems - identify causes of changes in natural systems - describe the dynamics of basic geochemical processes - build dynamic models of simple geochemical systems
Syllabus
  • Principles Changes Phase stability and phase transitions Systems with constant composition Systems with variable composition Electrochemical systems Thermodynamic description of mixtures Chemical equilibrium Chemical reactions Ion behavior in solutions Oxidation and reduction Dynamics Molecules motion Rate of chemical reactions Kinetic of complex reactions Dynamic of reaction on solid surfaces Surface properties of colloid systems Growth of solid phases Adsorption Catalysis Rate of electrochemical reactions Dynamics of large systems
