Course objectives
After the completion of the course the student should be able to:
understand authentic chemical texts at B2 level of CEFR
understand spoken discourse concerning chemical topics at B2 level of CEFR
communicate on a special topic at B2 level of CEFR
skim the text and understand its general meaning
scan the text and find a piece of specific information
formulate the main ideas of the text
distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information
summarize relevant information
present the results of one´s research
apply the acquired skills to new chemical topics
Learning outcomes
On completing the course the student will be able to adapt the content and style of a presentation according to a specific occasion, will be aware of detailed criteria of evaluting spoken production, will have peer-feedback skills - giving and accepting feedback, and discussion skills - asking polite contextualized questions and respond to them. Next, the student will be able to write a structured abstract of a research article and also write a paragraph comparing two phenomena. In grammar, the student will be able to give recommendations (should, had better), reproduce advice (verb patterns, e.g. he suggested -ing),form indirect questions, use modal verbs and infinitive structures for expressing probability, use if-clauses for hypothesizing, and report direct speech.

continuous assessment through assigned tasks, written credit test - the passing grade is 60%, 80% of seminar attendance is required
