Prerequisites
This course is part of two-semester course (together with XS470 in spring semester). These courses can be undertaken in any order. Neccessary for undertaking: Opennes to empathicaly listen to others and honesty to oneself.

Course objectives
Develop communication competencies relevant for building relationship (especialy with students in classroom) and useful in tense or conflict situations.
Learning outcomes
Theoretical concepts: student will be able to explain:
- relation between feelings and needs (as components of experiencing) - four steps of non-violent communication - basic cathegories of conversational contexts - steps in peer empathy process Student will improve in following skills - empathic listening - understanding deeper meanings of the message - self connection - differentiating judgements/interpretations from observations and needs - honest non-blaming expression The above skills are not measurable and they are context-dependent. Therefore it is not possible to promise final level of students skills. However students would improve due to training and they will become aware of these skills snd their relevance to the situation.
Syllabus
  • Training is aimed to improve three pilars of nonviolent communication: Empathic listening, Honest self-expression, Self connection - Elements of communication that block connection - Transformation of judgements and enemy images - Framing for dialogue - 4 steps of expression: Observation, Feelings, Needs, Request.
