Course objectives
The course is focused on current trends and methodology used in bioclimatology, agrometeorology and forest climatology. The lecture is based on the theoretical bases and equations describing the energy and mass exchange between the atmosphere and living organisms. It is also focused on applied meteorology and climatology, which discusses the influence of meteorological elements on plants, animals and humans. Another part of the course is focused on the essential chapters in agrometeorology and agrometeorological forecasting.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course student should be able to: 1) discuss the current directions of applied research in meteorology and climatology, 2) used the selected methods to assess the influence of meteorological elements on living organisms and to analyse energy and mass flows in the selected ecosystems.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to bioclimatology • Energy and gas exchange between atmosphere, vegetation and the Earth's surface, energy and water balance of plants, forest climatology • Climate of animals, energy attributes, effects of the atmosphere on animals and their defensive mechanisms • Human bioclimate, the influence of the atmosphere on the human body, reactions, bioclimatological indices • Agrometeorology and agrometeorological forecasts • The impact of current climate change in agriculture

Teaching methods
Lectures, class discussion, reports, demonstration of projects and expert methodology. Part of the course is an all-day field excursion to the site, which apply modern instruments and methods of microclimate investigations.
Assessment methods
During the course students will elaborate seminar works that are evaluated separately. Final examinations will be in the oral form. The final mark takes in account also the evaluation of seminar works.
